Brave Beginnings is proud to join the list of organizations nationwide participating in Neonatal Intensive Care Awareness (NICA) Month. In our latest animated Public Service Announcement (PSA) highlighting one of history’s most famous preemies, Sir Isaac Newton, Brave Beginnings helps educate viewers on the overwhelming need for life-saving neonatal equipment in hospitals. NICA Month is designed to honor families experiencing a stay in neonatal intensive care units, and the health professionals who care for them. The PSA will be released to a nationwide audience via broadcast, digital and social platforms with an expected audience of 30-45 million viewers
One in nine babies (450,000) in the U.S. is born prematurely, often without access to the most up-to-date neonatal care. With the right equipment, healthcare providers have a chance to combat the 35% of infant deaths that occur due to premature birth. Premature infants face potential lifelong complications such as chronic lung disease, blindness, life-threatening intestinal inflammation and cognitive delays. Having access to proper medical equipment gives every preemie a fighting chance to survive and thrive.
Annually, Brave Beginnings provides grants for life-saving neonatal equipment such as critical airway carts, infant resuscitators, incubators, omnibeds and much more. To date, our program has contributed $5 million dollars in grants to 148 medical facilities across the United States. Hospitals have been able to use these funds to supply their NICUs with top of the line neonatal technology. Because of the partnership Brave Beginnings has developed with hospitals across the US, a generation of preemies will grow up to live healthy and productive lives.
